Dedicated to Innovation
Over the years, Swingline has started a revolution, a stapling revolution that is. Did you know each staple used to be loaded one by one into the back of staplers? Yeah, that’s as time-consuming as it sounds. So in 1939, Swingline redesigned the stapler to make this process quicker and easier.
They created the top-loading stapler, plus discovered an adhesive that held staples together in a row. Okay, sounds technical, but what this means is that you could now lift the top of the stapler and drop in a full strip of staples at once. Much easier! This design simplified how Swingline staples and quickly became the industry standard.
Just like back then, Swingline continues to keep an eye out for areas to innovate and make stapling simple and accessible.

In 1950, they launched their mini stapler – small, cute and fits perfectly in a bag or backpack. But they didn’t overlook big stapling jobs either! Swingline created its first electric stapler in 1969, which was a game-changer for busy offices, classrooms and anyone who has a large pile of papers to staple. Along the way, they’ve created staplers of all shapes and sizes, including the 2002 launch of the iconic 747® stapler – and yes, it comes in red.
